My name is Ashley Hannah. I am a Junior Mechanical Engineering student. The coolest thing about my major is the possibilities that I can do with my major. There are a lot of different options that are opened when you study mechanical engineering. The best class I took last semester was a Solidworks class. Solid works is a computer program that is used to design and build parts and prototypes. I hope that when I finish my degree I can be a drafter for a company and use the skills that I have been working on since I was in high school. In my spare time I love binge watching Netflix, some of the series I enjoy are Arrow, Flash, Friends, and One Tree Hill. I grew up watching One Tree Hill and Friends but now that they have come to an end I have started watching Arrow and The Flash. I am a huge fan of Country music. My favorite songs right now are a tie between Tuxedo performed by Claire Dunn and Middle of a Memory by Cole Swindell. I also love most of Sam Hunt’s songs no matter if they are ones he sings or ones that he has wrote. If you didn't see my post from below the Grand Old Opry is like a home away from home to me. Growing up I wished I had the talent to perform on that stage. So many people have performed on that stage that have made not only a huge impact on country music but an impact of the world we live in today. I love cooking, I normally have my friend group which is around 15 people over to eat dinner 2-3 times a semester. I learned to cook from my Grammy when I was younger. During the summers she would cook the grand-kids lunch and I would always go help her in the kitchen, since then I have loved cooking. I really want a dog but I don't have any pets right now. Growing up I had a dog named Lucky for 17 years.I also have 3 fur nephews, Yogi, Benjamin, and Clifford.
When Lucky won't leave me alone to pull weeds because she wants to play.

What a fun post, Ashley: I like the combination of computer programming and country music. And here's an idea for stories in this class: maybe you could turn stories into the lyrics of country music songs, maybe even lyrics that go with songs you like. You can embed the YouTube video in the post, and people could hear the music while singing along with your song-story lyrics. Anyway, just a thought: country music is a genre that is so good at telling stories in songs, so that might be a fun thing to explore this semester... and stories like that would be fun to read/sing!

ReplyDeleteAshley, this post was a lot of fun for me to read because it's all so different! I'm a creative media production major, which is about as far as you can get from any type of engineering. It sounds like the stuff you're doing is super cool though! Just way over my head. I've never been a huge fan of country music, but I have been to the Grand Old Opry, and I agree that it's an amazing place. I also love the dog pictures. How cute!! I think Clifford is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteHi Ashley! I love all the dog photos! I actually have a jack russell terrier at home. I really liked hearing what your major is. Because I'm a film and media studies major. And most of the time someone say engineer I usually say "oh ok that's cool." Mainly because I don't really know the difference between all the different engineers. In the means of what they do. And you said you like to cook. I love to cook to! what is your favorite thing to cook? In my opinion my favorite thing, even though its simple, is spaghetti. I always add different things in!

I am not really fan of country music though I used to listen to it religiously growing up, I listen more to alternative and folk music. I really like your dog pictures, I recently just got a dog and he is the best thing in the world right now. If you get the chance, definitely look into getting one.
ReplyDeleteHey Ashley, I love all the photos of the puppies! Hopefully you can get one soon! I have two cats here in Norman, but have a Siberian Husky named Jasper that lives at my parent's house in Tulsa. I don't listen to much country music, but I really like some of the older stuff, like Johnny Cash and Dolly Parton. I have a few friends that are getting their Phds in Mechanical Engineering, and it definitely seems tough but very rewarding. Best of luck! :)

I can see from your post you are really passionate about your degree and that is great!!! I wish you nothing but success in whatever door is opened for you in that field. I also am a netflix binge watcher. I'm currently watching grey anatomy (so basic, I know) for the second time. Stranger things may be one you would enjoy once you finish your other shows! That's awesome you like to cook, I cannot cook at all.. What is your favorite meal to cook for your friends?

ReplyDeleteI have a couple friends that are the engineering department and I know that this freshmen class has the highest rate of female engineering majors! So kudos for, not only, doing a major that is not always coveted by women but also doing it with what sounds like a lot of passion!
And oh man, I love the Flash and Arrow TV shows! I hope your enjoying bingeing them on Netflix; trust me the Flash only gets better no matter where your at! Also I have gotten so busy over the last few semesters that I have lost all my time for cooking, its great that you make time for friends and a hobby all at once. What is your favorite thing to cook at the moment? Oh and do you like baking as well or is that a realm you haven't touched yet?

ReplyDeleteThat is so cool that you already know what you want to do! I am thoroughly jealous. I always wished that I would have a talent like singing or dancing. I love cooking too! It is a lot easier to get the motivation to cook for only yourself I have found. But it is always fun to cook with and for people you love/care for. I wish having a dog wasn’t such a hassle with landlords. I would love to have a dog now. I feel like no house is a home without one. Your dog pictures are great by the way, so cute!

I know it's hard to do but it's really rewarding once you graduate! I'm glad you like dogs, I grew up with a little toy poodle as the family dog. I look forward to reading more of your work!

I seriously could watch the same show until I finish the entire series. No shame. Back to school, I am so impressed you know what you're doing already after graduation! ReplyDeleteIt's good to see another engineer, there aren't too many of us in here. Two of my roommates are mechanical engineers, and they do not quite share the same positive experiences with the solid works class as you. To each their own I guess.

Hi Ashley, I am also a huge fan of country music. The music I like though is more from the 90's. This new pop country music isn't my favorite, but it is still good. I am a huge netflix person too. I think I have watched the office like 4 times now and if you haven't would totally recommend it to you.

Those puppies are so cute! It looks like you get to spend a decent amount of time with your niece and nephew pups which is alway awesome. Dogs are such a good stress release. ReplyDeleteI love your Netflix choices! I have to admit, I've never been through all of them, but they're all on my binge watch list for winter break. I've started and restarted Friends a couple times, but I want to see all the episodes at least once! I also feel that yearning for a dog on a deep level. I have wanted one of my own for YEARS now, but settle for my dog niece, my brother's beautiful German Shepherd named Missy. I always tell myself RIGHT after graduation, I'm heading right to the animal shelter to adopt myself a pup.

There's always a reason to watch Friends. I would argue it's the greatest show of all time. So, I love your Netflix choices! That's so cool that you have your friends over and cook for them.
